Not everybody has the privilege to really do what he loves and make a living or a fortune out of it.
Everybody strives for it, but not everybody has achieved it yet. It is like the best job you can imagine, if you make money by doing what you really love, so that your job doesn’t feel like work anymore at all. But more than often we have bills to pay and maybe with our passionate hobby as an artist we cannot cover them (yet).
So we feel frustrated, forced into doing something just for the sake of earning money. We might not enjoy working for that other company anymore because we tell yourself that we want to work for ourselves and follow our found purpose in life.
If you don’t know what you would love doing yet, just ask yourself this simply questions: “What would you do if money is not the constraint?”
- What would you do to not get bored in the day-to-day life?
- How would you occupy yourself to call your day fulfilled?
- What is the most fun for you?
- What would you do even if nobody offers you money for it?
- What would you do just for the sake of doing it?
- How do you think you can contribute the most?
- What are your strengths?
- What makes you unique?
- What do you love?
- Why?
Go wild with your imagination and don’t restrain yourself in any way during the process. It is important to open your mind to everything, also always ask why after every question since it forces your mind to go deeper and you will find your true and real reasons for everything you do in your life.
This is just a little game you can play to find something you truly love doing, something you can use to find your passion. But most of us already know what we love to do, but still feel chained by our current life situations and its demands.
How do we break out of it?
I found the most efficient way to do so, is by baby-stepping it.
It basically means to do what you have to do and still follow your dream, until it finally switches in your favour. If you need money, because you have bills to pay, don’t stop on your day job and follow your passion right away. It rarely works out that way, since you cannot live without food and shelter and it might take some time since you make money with your new endeavor. This is why you should love what you do UNTIL you do what you love.
It means that you give full acceptance towards your current life situation. If you have a job you don’t like, accept it and see it as it is: a way to allow yourself to freely follow your passion afterwards. It funds your new undertaking. But it is more. Whenever you are stuck in an unwanted place and you feel like going crazy, it trains you the basic concept of acceptance.
Whatever you resist persists.
It trains you to stay in the current moment and enjoy life in a deeper level. Being stuck in a “bad” job is probably the best spiritual practice you can get in life. It teaches you so many things and yet so many people regret it because they only look at their own problems. Doing a “shitty” job is something that gives you so many great qualities.
It teaches you how to be persistent in life, how to focus on YOURSELF and not the environment, how to focus on the doing instead of the result (because the result is possible not so relevant for you if you work for a big company). It teaches you to love the progress and channels your thoughts on the action itself, which is one of the most important features you can have to live a happy life.
Once you find yourself being OK with your current life situation and no longer resisting it, you generate space.
Space that you can use for something new.
When your mind is occupied with resistance, nothing new can flourish out of it.
But when you have space, you can get creative. This is where you can start to integrate the stuff that you love doing into your life. And you do best by slowly integrating it. When you work all day and but you want to follow your carrier as a writer, dedicate some time of the day in the morning to writing. Do the single smallest step you can imagine towards your goal right in the morning of your new day.
If you love writing, write some lines, if you love art, create something, if you want to start a new business, fill your mind with some information you need to get just a little step closer towards your vision.
Do anything, but do something.
It will give you power for the upcoming day, because you KNOW that you have already spent some time for something that gets you closer to your target.
Sooner or later you have taken so many little steps, that you made quite some distance and it is only a matter of time until your life situation is filled with more of the new and less from the old and it shifts in your favor!
